An Introduction to Massage
with Franco Rebagliati & Emilie de la Chapelle of You Are The Sea
This August in Helsinki, You Are The Sea is offering a two-day introduction to massage, a chance to learn alongside them in an intimate setting.
In this two-day workshop, we'll learn to identify with the sense of touch, what it means to give, and through that, discover something about our own experience of receiving. We'll explore compassionate touch and offer a few elemental tools for facilitating and holding space for another person, guiding you through a simple routine of fluid, long strokes throughout the whole body. Everyone gives and receives several times across the two days.
This is not a course about becoming a massage therapist or gaining certifiable hours. It's an invitation to deepen a personal journey, one that happens through connection and touch.
Who this is for
This course welcomes anyone who feels drawn to the work, whether you've never given a massage before, or you're a practitioner looking to soften and deepen what you already do. No experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to show up with presence.
Schedule
This is an intensive weekend program, immersive by design. We meet across two full days, each running from 9am to 6pm with an hour's break, totalling 16 hours of hands-on learning and practice.
About the facilitators
Franco Rebagliati spent decades exploring the art of massage, rooted in Esalen-inspired techniques. Over time he created a unique connection between surfing and bodywork, an approach where creativity and art lead the way, and where the unknown is met with curiosity rather than method. You Are the Sea is the name he gave to a feeling — one that often surfaces on the table, or in the water - of being held, dissolved, and quietly returned to yourself.
Emilie de la Chapelle is a Finnish bodywork practitioner, Esalen massage therapist and surfer. She came to this work through a long relationship with movement and the sea, and a quiet belief that the body knows more than we think. She joined You Are the Sea in 2022 and brings a warmth and presence to the room that people feel from the moment they arrive.
